Dug a Fire Pit Today

[ 2 ] October 31, 2012 |

We took off this week to celebrate our first quarter homeschool accomplishments…and built a fire pit all together in the backyard so we can have hot dog roasts in the winter. Mind you, the only fires I’ve ever started until a month ago were started by turning knobs or flipping switches, and working in the dirt grossed me out. This new lifestyle is good for us all. I feel so…capable!

Oh my gosh, you are homeschooling?

We home schooled our two boys and I can’t imagine not having done it. It’s not always easy, and I felt like a complete failure most of the time.

But looking back, I see that the reason I felt like a failure is that I held myself up to a false standard of what a home school dad “must” be like. I imagined the perfect curriculum, little obedient children rapt in wonder at my every word.

It wasn’t like that. And yet now with the little guys off to college or soon-to-be, I’m amazed at who they are and what they’ve become. They surpassed every possible hope I ever had for them.

I love the fire pit. I want that fire pit in my back yard. It’s perfect! Isn’t it? Roasting hot dogs in the winter? Yes, this is outstanding. I’m not surprised you did something so genuinely good. You’re not just a highly educated and first-rate intellect, you’re an artist, a creator, in your soul. I can tell. I bet Jose is too, but he’s too far back in that picture for me to tell for sure. I bet he is.

So Stacy, if you keep publishing, I’ll keep reading and commenting. Just letting you know. I’ve missed your always inspiring and intelligent writing. I really have.

    Jeff
